Why Spiritual Attacks Often Happen Before a Wedding

It’s something we see time and time again: a couple deeply in love, excited to start their forever journey together, suddenly find themselves in turmoil just before their wedding day. Arguments rise from nowhere. Doubts creep in. Plans start falling apart. What was once pure joy suddenly feels like confusion and conflict.

You might be tempted to dismiss it as “wedding stress” — but as believers, we know it runs deeper than that.

Marriage was God’s idea from the very beginning. It’s a sacred covenant, not just a celebration. And anything that carries such divine purpose will always be a target for spiritual attack.

A Real-Life Testimony

Recently, we hosted a wedding for a couple whose story beautifully illustrates this truth. They met years ago, before they knew Christ. Life took them on different paths — they broke up and found Jesus independently, both surrendering their lives to Him on the very same day. When they reunited, their relationship was built on a new foundation: faith, purpose, and ministry.

But just before the wedding, everything seemed to go wrong. They had painful disagreements, moments of doubt, and even questioned whether they were making a mistake.

And yet — in the middle of all that tension — came one of the funniest, most heartwarming moments. One night, after a particularly tough day, the groom-to-be looked at his fiancée and said, “Lie down for a minute.” She was confused but obeyed. He then appeared with a bowl of warm water, a towel, and a look of determination. He gently wrapped her feet in the warm towel and said, “You’re just getting cold feet, my love. Let’s fix that.”

They both burst out laughing — and in that simple act, the atmosphere changed. The tension broke. The love and humor God gave them returned.

It was such a beautiful reminder that joy, laughter, and tenderness are powerful weapons against the enemy’s attempts to divide.

Understanding the Spiritual Battle

Scripture reminds us that unity is powerful. In Psalm 133, it says:

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity! … for there the Lord commands the blessing.”

Unity commands God’s blessing. And wherever there is blessing, the enemy seeks to divide.

In Deuteronomy 32:30, the Bible says:

“How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight?”

When two children of God come together in unity, their spiritual strength multiplies — not doubles. There’s exponential power in godly partnership. That’s why the days and weeks leading up to a wedding often bring intense opposition. The enemy knows that a united marriage grounded in Christ can shake the kingdom of darkness.

Recognize the Attack — and Pray Through It

If you’re engaged or preparing for marriage and suddenly facing conflict, emotional strain, or unexpected chaos — pause. Pray. Recognize it for what it is: not just stress, but a spiritual distraction meant to steal your peace and divide your hearts.

Instead of reacting in fear or frustration, pray together. Worship together. Declare unity over your relationship. Remember:

“The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.”Proverbs 10:22

God’s blessing over your marriage brings joy, not confusion. If you keep Him at the center, He will turn every test into a testimony.

Final Encouragement

At Forevermore Moments, we’ve seen it again and again — couples who choose to pray through the storm come out stronger, more united, and more in love with Jesus and each other. Your wedding day isn’t just about two people saying “I do.” It’s about two warriors standing together in covenant, ready to multiply God’s glory through their union.

So if things feel hard before your wedding, don’t lose heart. You’re not under attack because you’re doing something wrong — you’re under attack because you’re doing something right.

Stay united. Keep praying. And trust that where there is unity, God commands His blessing.
